This year marks the 100th anniversary of big-band leader Glenn Miller, born on March 1, 1904, in Clarinda, Iowa, whose hits included "Moonlight Serenade," "In the Mood," "String of Pearls" and "Little Brown Jug."
Mitsukoshi department store in Tokyo's Nihonbashi will hold an exhibition from Dec.21 that will cover the life and music of this U.S. trombonist.
The exhibition will display about 40 photographs showing Miller onstage and behind the scenes, as well as a replica of the uniform he wore when he was the leader of the Army Air Force Band, photocopies of music he wrote and replicas of posters of two movies in which he appeared -- "Sun Valley Serenade" and "Orchestra Wives" -- and "The Glenn Miller Story," which starred James Stewart. Clips from the movies will also be shown.
