Jaki Liebezeit and Burnt Friedman, two of Germany's foremost exponents of experimental music from two different generations, will be performing together this week in Japan for the first time.
As the drummer of legendary '70s experimental rock band Can, Liebezeit has left a legacy of challenging rhythmic exploration to remind the young Turks of today's techno/electronica where it all came from.
As for Friedman, he's been blurring the boundaries between jazz, dub and experimental electronica for the better part of the last decade. He has 12 albums to his credit and may be best known for his work as one half of Flanger, whose freaky multilayered electro-jazz has been some of the most original music to be released on the cutting-edge Ninja Tune label. For this Japan tour, however, Friedman will be accompanied by The Nu Dub Players, one of his ongoing collaborative projects.
