There are several contemporary art shows worth seeing before most Tokyo galleries close for a summer break.
First up is the "Eleven & Eleven" exhibition, curated by the Sungkok Museum in Seoul in conjunction with galleries here and in South Korea. I touched on this show several weeks ago -- it features new work by 11 young artists from the two World Cup co-host nations and was up last month at the Sungkok. Unfortunately, the pieces have now been scattered across 11 different Tokyo art spaces, and even this usually indefatigable reviewer won't be trudging through the heat to visit all of them. (Details of all venues are available from www2.tky.3web.ne.jp/~galleryq/11.html or by calling the friendly bilingual organizers on [03] 3535-2524.)
Anyway, many of the Eleven & Eleven host galleries are in Ginza where, as it happens, there are also a couple of other good shows. One of these is Zhang Dali at Base Gallery.
