Electraglide attracts big names, and that's why it has quickly become Japan's most eagerly anticipated annual dance event. Last year's inaugural event boasted Underworld and Orbital. This time around, Fatboy Slim headlines the DJ stage and Aphex Twin the live stage.
The last time Norman "Fatboy" Cook was in town was three years back, and if rumors of his imminent retirement from live DJing are true, then see the big-beat legend now rather than banking on a return visit. He always plays crowd-pleasing DJ sets, so expect a mix of big beats, funky soul and a few surprises, which usually means a bizarre bunch of remixes, like Madonna duetting with The Strokes or something.
Aphex Twin usually prefers low-key gigs at friends' parties than big events. As dance music's chief maverick, the only thing you can expect from him is a totally unpredictable set, and that he'll bid to destroy your eardrums. His new album, "Drukqs," is lame compared to the superb singles -- "Come to Daddy" and "Windowlicker" -- of recent years, but live, he's superb. He often lulls fans into a false sense of brain-dead security with ambient anthems before setting off avalanches of mental drum 'n' bass that's impossible to dance to unless your blood has been dialytically replaced with liquid amphetamine sulphate.
