There will be a free screening of the winners of the 45th Competition for Films and Videos on Japan at Tokuma Hall in Higashi-Shinbashi, Tokyo, on Dec. 5, starting at 10:30 a.m.
Inaugurated in 1957, the competition is aimed at promoting a better understanding of Japan in the world community. This year, six works out of a total 53 submissions, including 24 from abroad, received prizes.
The Gold Prize went to "Nachi, Fire Festival," directed by Masaki Matsumoto, and the Silver Prize went to "The Way of Harmony," directed by Krisi Prahova of Bulgaria.
"World of Inner Feelings and Touch: Stationery in Japan," directed by Takashi Usui, also took the Silver Prize as well as the Foreign Minister Prize.
"Bean Cake," directed and produced by David Greenspan of the U.S., "Japanese Traditional Technology of Thatching With Plant Materials" and "Japan Machine Industry Series -- The Frontiers of Skilled Manufacturing" shared the Special Jury Prize.
