KAWASAKI (Kyodo) Following a year of rehearsals, some 20 young students of noh performed their first full play at Kawasaki City Noh Theater last weekend.

Under the direction of their teacher, Hisa Uzawa, a 51-year-old female noh actor from the Kanze school, the students -- aged between 9 and 18 -- performed "Tsuchigumo" ("Spider"), which depicts the struggle between villagers and a spider monster who pretends to be human. They also played out a scene from another noh play.

More than 100 people gathered for the Sunday event, which was staged to mark the 10th anniversary of Uzawa's classes.
