At the close of the millennium, it is a sad fact that torture continues to be carried out in over 150 countries worldwide. "Rock Against Torture," an Amnesty International benefit concert to be held Nov. 19 at What the Dickens in Ebisu, aims to raise funds for the human-rights watchdog and publicize its current campaign against torture.
The benefit will feature popular R&B band the Howling Loochie Brothers and Yuya Aota on bottleneck guitar.
To coincide with the launch of its year-long antitorture campaign, Amnesty released the report "Take A Step to Stamp Out Torture" last month. Describing in graphic detail beatings, rapes, suffocation, mutilation and other instances of violence, it is the result of more than three years research.
