"Dan Year 2000," a nine-month festival featuring the works of Japanese composer Ikuma Dan, will begin Oct. 15.
The festival aims to highlight Japanese music culture after World War II through the achievements of one Japanese composer.
A variety of different concerts, operas, exhibitions and symposia connected to Dan's works will be held.
On the opening day a free brass band concert outside Kanagawa Kenmin Hall will feature Dan's suites and wedding marches, while Tobiichi Hirose's photos of Dan's life and work will be shown at Kanagawa Kenmin Hall Gallery, through Nov. 4.
An opera concert on the same day at Kanagawa Kenmin Hall will feature highlights from Dan's "Susano-o" and "Takeru."
A lecture by Dan himself on the theme of his operas will be held Nov. 13, and the opera "Chanchiki" will be performed Dec. 8.
