"The World of Tate-e Tokaido," a special fall exhibition of the great ukiyo-e artist Utagawa Hiroshige's works, will be held at Ginza Tokai Gallery Art Hiroshige Oct. 11-Nov. 5 and Nov. 8-Dec. 3. Divided into two parts, Hiroshige's masterpieces from his last years: all 55 works of "Goju-santsugi Meisho-zue," which is called a "Tate-e Tokaido" due to the "tate (vertically)" printed ukiyo-e, and all 12 works of "Tokaido Harimaze-zue" will be on display.
Harimaze-zue are divided into small sections (large and small in size) in one print. There will also be a demonstration of carving and printing by ukiyo-e artisans every Friday-Sunday during the exhibition.
