"Clerks"

Film distributor Uplink Co. is giving away pairs of tickets for the U.S. movie "Clerks" to five readers of The Japan Times. The movie will open Aug. 19 as Shibuya Cine Amuse's late show.

Based on his own experience working at a grocery store, the comedy is writer/director Kevin Smith's debut feature film, and depicts the lives, loves, ambitions and eccentricities of two cashiers at a New Jersey convenience store.

Featuring Brian O'Halloran, Jeff Anderson and Marilyn Ghigliotti, the 93-minute black-and-white film was screened as the comic highlight of the 1994 Sundance Film Festival and the New Directors/New Films program at the Museum of Modern Art.

To apply for the free tickets, send a postcard with your name, address and telephone number to Uplink Co. "Clerks" Section, Yokoyama Bldg. 3rd fl., 1-8-17 Jinnan, Shibuya-ku, Tokyo 150-0041, no later than Aug. 9.
