"You'll never be able to guess the next song!"
Funky Suehiro, drummer and founder of Five Star Flag, taunts the crowd at Shimokitazawa's Club Que. And that's exactly the way he likes it. The band launches into a song that sounds closer to heavy metal than fusion, which is how Five Star Flag bill themselves.
Their definition of fusion, however, would seem to be closer to schizophrenic. The traditional rock instruments -- drums, bass, electric guitar and keyboards -- are offset by the exotic addition of the erhu (Japanese niko), a two-string Chinese fiddle.
