There are some animals who spend years, even decades in a cage, even at ARK. They are the passed-over ones, the forgotten, those who have become lost in the shelter and amid the competition for adoption.
This handsome gray tabby is one such. He and his brother, Roll, have spent 10 years in a pen. A timid cat, Colone and others like him have no hope of being adopted up against kittens and the extroverts. And, there is little chance that without a change in his environment he will suddenly change. Socialization training at ARK is spent on the dogs, not the cats. Colone loves other cats and is not adverse to a friendly pat.
However, "sunshine and quiet" are the only things in his life right now that make him at all happy. Locked away and forgotten. It's not a life, not one worth living. As one staff member says, "I just hope he doesn't spend his life at the shelter. He's wilting."
Please don't let Colone waste away. He doesn't deserve a life sentence.
If you are interested in adopting a new pet, email ARK at [email protected] or call 050-1557-2763 Monday to Saturday (bilingual) for more information. Tokyo ARK is an NPO founded by Briton Elizabeth Oliver. It is dedicated to rescuing and rehoming abandoned animals. All animals are vaccinated, neutered and microchipped.
