Miggy, now rechristened Minnie, was first featured here in April of last year. A 12-year-old powerhouse at the time, Minnie has only gotten bigger and better. Minnie was initially taken in temporarily by Tokyo resident Ai Taguchi, but the charming dachshund grew on Taguchi. "I realized she fit in perfectly with my lifestyle. Since my family was supportive, I decided to stick by her permanently," she says. Other than an insatiable appetite, Minnie does have one small "problem." She is what Taguchi describes as a toy freak. "I used to keep toys away from her, thinking it might hurt her chances of being adopted if she became overly possessive of them. But when I decided to adopt her myself, I gave her a treat-filled toy, and for two days she went crazy, racing around with it. Once she realized no one was going to take it, she finally calmed down and could play with it normally." Minnie has not only grown on Taguchi, she's a big hit with all. "I have the feeling I have a lot more guests now," Taguchi says.
Many more dogs and cats are available for adoption. Please email ARK at [email protected] or call 050-1557-2763 Monday to Saturday (bilingual) for more info. Tokyo ARK is an NPO founded by Briton Elizabeth Oliver. It is dedicated to rescuing and rehoming abandoned animals. All animals are vaccinated, neutered and microchipped. Prospective owners are requested to undergo a screening process.
