The most famous race in the world for cars that have survived the test of time, Le Mans 24 Hours, has never been staged outside France in 82 years. Until this year, that is, when it comes to Japan.
"A 'classic' car is one made in the 1930s, according to American terminology, while 'vintage' is British and means any car made between 1919 and 1930," explains Shotaro Kobayashi. As honored chairman of Le Mans Classic Japan Organization, he is as passionate about old cars as they come.
And yes, he is planning to enter one of his vintage cars in the Le Mans Classic Japan, which kicked off with a news conference in Tokyo in March. The race itself will be around the Mine circuit in Yamaguchi Prefecture from Oct. 28 to 30. Registration application for the competition is under way, and unique and historic vehicles from all over the world are signing up to show off their paces.
