When Lisa Salmon was introduced to Jeff Root by an old high school friend in California, they found they had Japan in common. Jeff taught here in the early 1990s, and was then head-hunted out of Chicago in 2001; Lisa came initially on the JET program in 1996.
"Jeff and I are pretty mobile," Lisa explains while her (now) husband nips back to his office in Shibuya. "We spent one year in Costa Rica, another in Chicago. We were here a year, then moved to New Zealand two years ago, where we bought an apartment in Auckland. We've been back in Japan just over a month."
She is a freelance Web site designer. Jeff has been writing a search engine news column for Internet Watch ( internet.watch.impress.co.jp/www/column/kensaku/) and has a book about search engines coming out in Japanese in May.
