Dr. Akiko Ohnogi is a vision in red. She is wearing red from top to toe -- from earrings to handbag and shoes -- because, put simply, "It's my favorite color."
Akiko has taken time off from a frantic schedule to talk about a trip to Sri Lanka to help relieve trauma among children affected by the tsunamis of Dec. 26. "I'm the only professional Japanese working in the area of mental health to volunteer for this work. I guess this does make me a little unusual."
Akiko left Japan aged 4 for the U.S. speaking only Japanese. "I returned to Japan aged 10, monolingual in English. I'd tried Japanese school on Saturdays but didn't like it. My parents spoke Japanese to each other, but in English to me and my brother."
