From March 30 to April 1, Landmark Hall in Yokohama's Landmark Tower will echo to the sound of classical ballet instruction in English to a Japanese piano accompaniment. Since lots of nice things were said about the first Yokohama Ballet Intensive in 2003, YBI Director Helen Price is confident this year's seminar will be even more successful.
With master teachers from Europe, North America and Asia, all on the cutting edge of international ballet instruction, Helen believes YBI an event that dancers and teachers cannot afford to miss. "Our coaches this year include Alan Land, ballet master of the Dutch National Ballet, and Artemis Gordon, director of the Arts Umbrella Dance Company in Vancouver."
Helen was 2 when she was taken from Rugby, England, to first Ottawa and then Toronto by emigrant parents. "I guess I think of Toronto as home, though of course I'm also home here." (Here being Totsuka in Kanagawa Prefecture, where she and her husband bought a house this year, with a view of Mount Fuji three steps to the left of the front door.)
