"Welcome to Moor Cottage," declares Judith Godfrey, principal of the Manchester Language School, located in a quiet leafy suburb of the famed northern English city.
Moor Cottage, which is a family home as well as a school, is marvelous. The original building was part of a fortified farmhouse. Extended in 1796 ("we found a coin under a floorboard"), Judith and husband Bill have made it very much their own, with flagstone floors, Oriental rugs and an eclectic mix of furniture, furnishings, art and memorabelia from all around the world.
The fresh flowers are from the extensive walled garden, which packs a private courtyard, arches and bowers, water, fruit trees, a lawn and luxuriant herbaceous borders filled with color, scent and butterflies. A very English experience in more ways than one.
