Big shoes on sale in Kobe's Nagata district: A sale of large shoes is being held until Tuesday at Shoes Plaza in Nagata Ward, Kobe.
Shoe manufacturing is one of the major industries of the Nagata district and some 500 pairs of shoes, mostly for women, will be on sale. About 70 percent are large shoes -- from 24.5 cm to 26 cm (U.S size 7.5 to 9) -- that are not easily found in most shoe stores in Japan. A selection of small shoes -- from 21 cm to 22.5 cm (4 to 5.5) -- will also be on sale. A wide array of styles and designs will be available, while three vendors will also take orders for custom-made shoes.
The sale will be held from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. each day.

South Korean envoy to deliver speech in Osaka: Yu Byung Woo, consul general of the Republic of Korea in Osaka, will give a lecture from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Thursday at Crystal Tower in the city's Chuo Ward.
Yu will comment on matters such as the foreign policy of South Korea's new government and the future relationship between Korea and Japan. A party with officials of the consulate general will follow. The lecture will be conducted in Japanese.
The lecture is free, while the party costs 3,000 yen.

Kyoto to host 1-million item antiques fair: An antiques fair will take place from Friday through June 22 at Pulse Plaza in Fushimi Ward, Kyoto.
A total of 300 vendors from all over Japan will be displaying more than 1 million items at the Grand Antique Fair in Kyoto, the largest of its kind in western Japan. The 26th fair will feature a variety of items, including many that can be used to decorate tables, such as Japanese and European fabrics and Japanese glassware from the Showa and Taisho eras.
Entrance is free and the fair will operate between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m.
A free bus service to the venue will operate from the west exit of Takeda station on the Kintetsu and subway Karasuma lines.

Amnesty seeks letters to send to Turkish leaders: Amnesty International is inviting people to take part in a letter-writing campaign to defend the human rights of Turkish citizens between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. on June 22 at its Osaka office, on the fifth floor of the Pia NPO building in Minato Ward.
Participants will be able to write letters to the political leaders of Turkey to demand that they halt torture of citizens by law enforcement officers, violence against women and suppression of ethnic Kurds.
The fee to participate is 300 yen, not including the cost of envelopes and stamps. Reservations are required in advance.

Scrabble fans invited to competition in Kobe: Competitors are being sought for a Scrabble competition to be held from 1 p.m. on June 28 on the fourth floor of the Kobe Crystal Tower in Chuo Ward.
The games will be held to promote friendship between Japanese and foreign players.
