Children's art depicts New York, Afghanistan: Drawings by children from New York and Afghanistan are being displayed at Sakaimachi Gallery in Nakagyo Ward, Kyoto, until March 23. The pictures will also be shown at the Kyoto Municipal Museum of Art, in the city's Sakyo Ward, from Friday to March 23.
The drawings are by children who were at schools near the World Trade Center when they were destroyed on Sept. 11, 2001, and by children in Afghanistan. The works were recently published in a book by Hector Sierra, founder of the charity organization Artists Without Borders.
Sierra will also hold an origami workshop for children from 2 p.m. on March 22 at the Kyoto Municipal Museum of Art, and again from 2 p.m. on March 23 at Sakaimachi Gallery.
Entrance is free for both exhibitions. The Sakaimachi Gallery will be open between 11 a.m. and 7 p.m., while the Kyoto Municipal is open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Street performers take center stage in Osaka: Street performers will get together in the Hep Five and Hep Navio fashion complexes and the Hankyu Sanbangai underground shopping center in Kita Ward, Osaka, from Friday to March 30.
A total of 19 groups and solo performers from Japan and Australia will show off their tricks, mimes, acrobatic stunts and other performances in and around the shopping facilities.
The performances will be held between 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. on Friday, Saturday and March 23 and from 4 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. on weekdays.
The venues are near Umeda Station on the Hankyu Line.

One million antiques available at Kyoto fair: A large antiques fair will be held from Friday to March 23 at Pulse Plaza in Fushimi Ward, Kyoto.
The Grand Antique Fair in Kyoto will have more than 1 million items on sale with about 300 dealers from all over Japan. The 25th fair will feature antique fabrics from Japan and other Asian countries ranging from chintz and crepe to "yuzen," as well as lace, kimono, ceramics, furniture and other arts and crafts.
The fair will be open between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m.
A free bus service to the venue will operate from the West exit of Takeda Station on the Kintetsu and Karasuma subway lines.

Foreigners invited to taste tea ceremony: Osaka Sister City Network, a semigovernmental body affiliated with the Osaka City Office, is organizing a tea ceremony class for non-Japanese from 1:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. on April 5 at the International House Osaka in Tennoji Ward.
The manners and spirit of the tea ceremony will be demonstrated before participants are invited to take part.
The participation fee is 500 yen. Thirty applicants will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. The deadline for applications is March 28.
