Music makes me high
It all started with this song by Lost Boyz and a group of 10 guys and five girls who were dancing outside a university campus. It was my first brush with hip-hop dance. They were all wearing baggy pants and oversized T-shirts and just bouncing away, their dreadlocks flying. I recall thinking, "What are they trying to do here? Japanese can't dance hip-hop."
That was seven years ago. Today hip-hop styles can be seen on any city street. R&B and rap songs are always on the Japanese charts. Tickets to live shows by artists such as Lil' Kim and Mary J. Blige sell out in no time.
