While experts recommend installing new locks as one way of countering a break-in, they also urge residents to consider overall home-security measures to keep burglars at bay. Here is what some of them had to say.
Shigeo Osada of Nihon Lock Service Co. says that while changing old, easy-to-pick locks is recommended, no lock is 100 percent pick-proof. His advice:
* If you go on an extended holiday, stop your newspaper delivery. A jammed-up mailbox is a "come and take my TV" sign for many burglars.
