The Japan Foundation Kyoto office is offering foreigners a seminar on the"nenshi-ya" twisted thread makers of the Nishijin district of Kyoto on April 13 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the office's auditorium in Nakagyo Ward.
A nenshi-ya is a craftsman who makes thread for practical use by twisting raw thread taken from silkworm cocoons.
Taiichi Nishimura, proprietor of Nishimura Nenshi Shop, will talk about the pleasures and hardship of making thread. The talk will be given in Japanese with English interpretation. The seminar is open to a total of 50 people. No reservation is required.
