We've all seen the sexy, sultry, precarious, provocative and often preposterous poses of fashion models in fashion magazines. But rarely do we think about the person at the other end of the camera -- the fashion photographer. In the world of fashion, he (and they are mostly men) has become an icon on equal footing with the super models he shoots.
One such star is American photographer Steven Klein. Klein has worked with high-profile magazines like i-D, The Face, Italian and French Vogue, L'uomo Vogue, Harper's Bazaar, Visionaire, Interview and W Magazine. He's shot the likes of super models Kate Moss and Naomi Campbell, and celebrities such as Brad Pitt, the Artist Formerly Known as Prince, Patti Smith, Gwyneth Paltrow and Kim Bassinger, to name but a few.
Klein is currently in Tokyo to open an exhibition of his work at Hillside Forum in Daikanyama. The exhibition is sponsored by Gucci, whose creative director, Tom Ford, is among Klein's greatest fans and collectors. Says Ford, also in Tokyo for the opening, "While Klein's pictures are immaculately composed, his subject matter is often raw, making us wince or feel queasy in the stomach."
