Recently, there has been much speculation that Japan will be invited to join the Five Eyes spy network.
This past year, the nation was invited to observe the intelligence partnership's meeting in Canada, and in mid-November, The Japan Times reported that the network held its first meeting in Japan with senior enlisted personnel of all members present.
The primary motivation for potentially adding Japan to the alliance is the considerable intelligence contributions the country could make concerning China, North Korea, Eastern Russia and East and Southeast Asia.
