Japanese retail giant Aeon is planning to employ 4,000 foreign workers with specified skilled worker visas by 2030 amid a labor shortage impacting the retail and food-service sectors.
Aeon, which operates supermarket chains such as Peacock Store, Maruetsu and My Basket, currently employs about 1,500 specified skilled workers group-wide, most of whom work at food processing facilities that supply the group’s outlets.
The plan was first reported by the Nikkei daily on Tuesday.
