The government plans to draw up basic guidelines on supporting midsize companies in the country, informed sources said.
The guidelines will specify how support should be provided to such companies based on their management conditions, and include specific numerical goals regarding their growth. The government will set up a study group of experts and aim to compile the guidelines by the March 2025 end of the current fiscal year, the sources said.
According to the industry ministry, there are around 9,000 midsize companies, or firms with up to 2,000 employees excluding small enterprises, nationwide. In the manufacturing industry, for example, companies with capital of up to ¥300 million or employees totaling up to 300 are classified as small enterprises and other firms with 2,000 or less employees fall under the category of midsize companies.
