Promoting scientific research and technological innovation has been a cornerstone of Japanese public policy for some time.
To maximize the reach and effectiveness of research efforts, the government has been encouraging collaboration among the public and private sectors and academia, as well as with research groups throughout Asia and the rest of the world. This level of collaboration requires a robust system of information sharing, and the Japan Science and Technology Agency has been playing a central role in Japan’s knowledge creation and dissemination infrastructure since its formation in 2003. To aid in this mission, the agency launched Science Japan, a portal site operated in English.

Operated as part of the Asia and Pacific Research Center (APRC), the aim of Science Japan is to deepen science and technology cooperation between Japan and the Asia-Pacific region by providing a “comprehensive overview of breaking science and technology news from Japan,” written for a global audience. In addition to news from a wide range of fields, the portal site provides interviews and opinion pieces from researchers, including international experts who have worked in Japan.
Visitors can also access videos and other materials produced by the APRC and Japan’s other national research institutes, English-language publications from the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency, the New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization and other organizations. These are available for download from the Science Japan website (https://sj.jst.go.jp/).
In addition to knowledge, Science Japan provides information about upcoming events and career opportunities, making it a valuable resource for science, technology, engineering and math professionals who are interested in working in Japan.
