The Japan Times, Ltd. is pleased to announce that its Sunday newspaper, The Japan Times On Sunday, has received Awards of Excellence for the second consecutive year in "The Best of News Design" Creative Competition, run by the American-based Society of News Design. The awards, which came in the Feature Design Pages and Combination Print & Digital categories, are recognized for their "truly excellent work" and for "going beyond mere technical or aesthetic competency.”

“Rediscovering Lost Tokyo,” and "Cannabis: The fabric of Japan" were selected in the Feature Design Pages category for newspapers with circulation of 49,999 or less, while “Code + culture” was selected in the Combination Print & Digital category, which was open to publications of all sizes.

The Society for News Design, which was founded in 1979, is an international organization consisting of some 1,500 news media professionals and visual communicators — specifically those who create print/web/mobile publications and products.
