The Japan Times, Ltd. is pleased to announce that The Japan Times On Sunday, its Sunday newspaper, has received an Award of Excellence for Redesign (Overall newspaper) in the 35th annual "The Best of News Design" Creative Competition, run by the American-based Society of News Design.

The Japan Times On Sunday was established in October 2013 as the successor to an earlier weekly publication, The Japan Times Weekly. In receiving the Award of Excellence, the new 28-page newspaper was recognized for its "truly excellent work" and for "going beyond mere technical or aesthetic competency."

The launch of The Japan Times On Sunday coincided with the establishment of The Japan Times, Ltd.'s new flagship newspaper, The Japan Times / International New York Times.

The Society for News Design, which was founded in 1979, is an international organization consisting of some 1,500 news media professionals and visual communicators — specifically those who create print/web/mobile publications and products.
