Reserve quarterback Ryosuke Nishizawa rushed 15 yards for the winning touchdown with 5:00 remaining in the second quarter, leading the Nihon University Phoenix to a 17-14 victory over the Hosei University Tomahawks on Sunday in the final day of Kanto Collegitate League at Yokohama Stadium.
The Phoenix finished the season with a perfect 7-0 record and clinched their second straight Kanto Collegiate League championship and their 34th overall. The Phoenix will play the Tohoku University Hornets, the representative of the Hokkaido-Tohoku area, for the Eastern Japan championship on Nov. 30 at Amino Vital Field in Chofu, Tokyo.
Meanwhile, in the Kansai Collegiate League, the Kwansei Gakuin University Fighters (7-0) captured their fourth consecutive title by defeating the Ritsumeikan University Panthers (6-1) 21-7 at Kincho Stadium in Osaka and advanced to the Western Japan championship game against Nagoya's Meijo University Golden Lions on Nov. 30 at Oji Stadium in Kobe.
