The Hiroshima Dragonflies, an NBL expansion club, won their first regular-season game on Saturday, defeating the visiting Hyogo Storks 80-63 in the season opener for both teams.
Point guard Atsunobu Hirao paced the Dragonflies with 16 points, including a pair of 3-pointers.
Hiroshima had three other players reach double figures in scoring: Clint Chapman (13 points), Kosuke Takeuchi (11) and Omar Reed (10).
Takeuchi grabbed a team-high 10 rebounds, and the hosts out-rebounded Hyogo 45-27.
The Dragonflies led 25-14 after one quarter. They shot 21 of 24 at the free-throw line.
On the second day of the NBL season, five other games were played. The Link Tochigi Brex defeated the defending champion Toshiba Brave Thunders 92-75 to complete a series sweep. The Hitachi Sunrockers topped the Chiba Jets 75-70. The Toyota Alvark whipped the Tsukuba Robots 82-62. The Wakayama Trians beat the Kumamoto Volters 85-78, and the Mitsubishi Electric Diamond Dolphins topped Levanga Hokkaido 77-69.
