Renho, who is running for Tokyo governor, usually posts her campaigning schedule on social media.

But there was one large event on Tuesday night that she hardly promoted — the All Tokyo Gathering, hosted by a group whose office is located in the building of a labor union affiliated with the Japanese Communist Party (JCP).

The low-key event may illustrate how Renho is walking a fine line when it comes to getting the organized backing of the JCP but trying to keep it quiet from the average voter.
