A renowned economist and professor of the graduate school at Waseda University has been arrested for allegedly looking up a high school girl's skirt at a Tokyo train station.
Police said Monday that they arrested Kazuhide Uekusa, 43, on suspicion of using a small mirror to peep up the 15-year-old's skirt on an escalator at JR Shinagawa Station on Thursday.
They said he has owned up to the allegation and apologized.
Uekusa appears regularly on television programs as a commentator on economics and related policies.
A spokesman from Waseda University's public affairs office said: "If the report is true, we find his act unacceptable as an educator. We would like to wait for the outcome of further investigation by authorities."
