Former Miyazaki Gov. Hiroshi Kuroki died of pneumonia Monday at a hospital in Miyazaki, his family said. He was 94.
Kuroki was arrested in 1979 and indicted on charges of accepting 30 million yen in bribes from a construction company shortly after being elected to his sixth term in office. He resigned amid the scandal.
The Miyazaki District Court sentenced him to three years in prison but the Miyazaki branch of the Fukuoka High Court acquitted him in 1988.
Prosecutors did not appeal the acquittal.
