Chef Yoshihiro Murata, who holds seven Michelin stars across three establishments in Kyoto and Tokyo, plans to open a restaurant in London's Mayfair serving modern dishes based on traditional Japanese cuisine.
Tokimeite, on Conduit Street, will be operated by Zen-Noh Group, the business arm of Japan's largest agricultural cooperative, JA. The restaurant will occupy three floors and seat 70. The group plans to showcase premium Japanese products, from prized wagyu beef to rare whisky and sake.
It will feature an open kitchen, Josper charcoal oven and open robata grill to gather around while dining. A chef's table private dining space for is also planned for shortly after the opening, later this year. The designer is Osaka-born Yasumichi Morita, whose projects include the two Megu restaurants in New York and Aqua Kyoto in London.
Murata, the third-generation chef-owner of Kikunoi, in Kyoto, will oversee the menu. He previously worked with the short-lived Chrysan, which Hakkasan opened on the edge of the City financial district.
