English director Thom Southerland's reworking of the megahit Broadway musical "Titanic" was an instant sensation when it opened in August 2013 at the popular midsize Southwark Playhouse in a trendy part of South London by the River Thames.
With its whole run a sellout, critics heaped praise on the show about which, for instance, Sam Marlowe wrote in The Times: "This is a gripping, ambitious ensemble piece and, with a steady hand and a gimlet eye for detail, the director steers it on a course to success."
Now, just 18 months later, that acclaimed work based on a story by Peter Stone, with music and lyrics by Maury Yeston, is set to be staged in Tokyo and Osaka, where it will be reborn with Southerland directing an all-Japanese cast.
