Ever wondered what it would be like to be a firefighter and extinguish a blaze? On Nov. 9, Fukagawa Fire Department is allowing the public to take photos of, as well as ride, some of its fire engines.
The "Shoubousha ni Nottemiyo!" ("Let's Ride on a Fire Engine!") event, takes place between 1:30 p.m. and 4 p.m. at Tokyo Rinkai Disaster Prevention Park, where participants will get the chance to learn how to use fire extinguishers and experience a realistic blaze inside a smoke-filled training facility. Lectures on how to use an Automated External Defibrillator will also be provided.
If you're going just to get on a ladder truck, make sure to arrive early since only 13 groups of two will be allowed on board. Reservation tickets for the trucks will be distributed at 1 p.m. and 2:30 p.m.
The event will take place even if it rains, but, of course, if there's a serious disaster the trucks will have to leave for duty.
"Shoubousha ni Nottemiyo!" ("Let's Ride on a Fire Engine!") takes place on Nov. 9 from 1:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Tokyo Rinkai Disaster Prevention Park in Koto Ward. The event is free. For more information, visit www.ktr.mlit.go.jp/showa/tokyorinkai/news/news_446.htm.
